Types of Heaters
- Modern Fireplaces
These are generally are low cost, particularly if you have cheap or free firewood laying around. They can warm up large areas and even hot water during winter using a wetback system. It can be quite environmentally sustainable, producing renewable energy and minimal pollution.
- Electric Heaters
These are very affordable and is suitable for warming up small areas. They come in various sub-types such as fan, convection and radiant, which have their own levels of efficiency. However, these types of heaters tend to be far less efficient, consume the most electricity to function and not have much heating output.

These are a very reliable back-up option in blackout scenarios. Especially if your normal method of winter heating is electricity based. However, they are one of the most expensive heater types, can pose a fire risk if put too close to an object.
